Also, just to briefly argue a contrary position, I might think this use of “queer” promises a more inclusive society that’s less dependent on labels, where a child grows up seeing unlimited possibilities of future relationships with anyone of any gender. The relationships could be monogamous or polyamorous, casual or committed. They could be with people who are cis, trans, nonbinary, intersex. They need not be defined in advance.
